Effecting Change - Recommending New LWVUS Positions

You are the League’s grassroots. We need your input!!

Online program..Please register in advance at this link. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the Zoom meeting online.

Many of us are passionate about issues and we want to have the League advocate for them. This is the way we do it: The national League (LWVUS) will be holding a convention June 27-29 in Washington DC and will be considering additions, deletions, and changes to our positions. Our forum is your opportunity to weigh in on the positions that are the basis of all League action. This is a process known in “League Speak” as “program planning.”

We already know that the LWVUS Board recommends that Program 2024 – 2026 continue the Campaign for Making Democracy Work®, which includes:

  • Voting Rights

  • Improving Elections

  • Money in Politics

  • Redistricting

  • Abolishing the Electoral College

We will be considering concurrences (agreement) with positions recommended by other state or local leagues. Below are materials outlining two concurrences we will consider:

We can also discuss ideas for positions, but please review the existing positions to see if we already have a position covering your area of concern. You can find existing LWVUS public policy positions in the publication Impact on Issues. Feel free to brush up on terminology with the LWVUS Program Planning Glossary. Please note that this event is for LWV Saratoga County league members only.

Lori Dawson will be guiding us through the Program Planning process using the materials provided by LWVUS. Please join the discussion!
