Film Screening: Right to Read with panel discussion
SEEN (Saratoga Educational Equity Network) is hosting a screening of the film, The Right to Read, as part of the Saratoga Book Festival hosted by The Friends of the Saratoga Springs Public Library (FSSPL). The screening will take place on Sunday, October 15, 2023 from 1:00-2:30pm at Gannett Auditorium on the Skidmore College campus, as part of an afternoon of equity-related events at Gannett Auditorium. There will be a panel discussion following the screening. SEEN is eager to bring community members together to explore the ways in which reading instruction and equity intersect.
The Right to Read is a riveting documentary and call to action that tells the stories of a courageous activist, a teacher, and two American families who fight to provide our youngest generation with the most foundational indicator of life-long success: the ability to read. Following the film screening, there will be a discussion led by Laurie Rabinowitz, Assistant Professor for Education Studies, with Winston Grady-Willis, a professor and founding director of Black Studies at Skidmore College..
Admission is free.
Note: This event is not sponsored by the League of Women Voters, but we include it in our calendar because we believe it will be of interest to our members.
